To take a portrait is to steal a soul: it is one of the modes of self-investigation of human creativeness.
With the B/REFLECTED series, on display at the 2014 Milan Triennale, photographers Max&Douglas brought fifty subjects – personalities from the worlds of sport, culture and entertainment – face to face with their own image by portraying them from behind a mirror in a moment of forced introspection. The exhibition earned the sponsorship of the UN precisely because it invited the subjects to gaze at themselves and wonder “Who are we?”, “What are we doing for ourselves and others?”.
Fondazione Exclusiva has chosen to continue the narrative of B/REFLECTED and extend the reflections suggested by this collection of portraits. It has therefore invited Max&Douglas to hold a free workshop for young photographers (under the age of 35), which will be held between 26 and 29 May, with the aim of exploring the world of photographic portraiture in the age of the selfie.
Photographers have until May 15 to send a portfolio of ten significant shots to the address email@example.com and have the opportunity to be among the 30 participants who will be selected.
Max&Douglas will share the experience they have acquired in years of working for leading Italian and international newspapers and magazines.
The purpose of the workshop is to create a kind of photography that will approach portraiture from an introspective point of view and describe each subject through a single image.
In order to present and promote the young photographers’ work, the Fondazione Exclusiva will be holding an exhibit of the pictures taken during the workshop concurrently to B/REFLECTED from 8 June to 21 July in AREA81.
Complete information is provided in the brochure.
The project has received the patronage of IED – Istituto Europeo di Design.
Special thanks to the technical partner Allucinazione.
